About Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain

Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain was born on 9th December 1880 in Payaraband village of Rangpur district in an aristocratic family.Her family was very conservative about girls'education.At that time there was no way to teach girls education in their family.

And in the social system of that time,there was no opportunity for girls to get formal education outside the house.Begum Rokeya was widely recognized as a pioneer of Bengali Muslim women's awakening and a Bengali woman writer.Although her real name is Rokeya Khatun,after marriage she was called Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain.She made the society aware of women's rights by publishing books such as Padmaraag,Abrodhvasini,Matichur and Sultana's Dream.He ranked sixth as the greatest Bengali of all time in a BBC Bengal poll.Rokeya Sakhawat Hussain was one of the modern thinkers and open minded women of her contemporaries.He wrote in the paragraph 'Fifty miles in an airplane', 'I was able to make the dream come true in an airplane written in a dream written by Sultana 25 years ago'.Begum Rokeya became the first Muslim prisoner-of-war to travel by plane.
